Greetings, and welcome to Flower Mart 2012! In this our 73rd Flower Mart and Washington, DC's premier annual festival of flowers, music and entertainment, we will honor Jamaica as it celebrates its 50th year of independence and pay tribute to this outstanding country and its people. Flower Mart has selected Jamaica as its first Caribbean nation to be so honored and under the patronage of Her Excellency, the Ambassador from Jamaica, Audrey P. Marks, this Flower Mart promises to be spectacular display of flora, music, art, dance and song. The Jamaican Embassy plans to treat Flower Mart volunteers to a reception at the Ambassador's residence featuring a cooking demonstration by resident Chef Sherene James. Some of these wonderful delectibles will also be served at the St. Albans Cafe which will be open both days of Flower Mart providing the choice of Jamaican light lunch or coffee and dessert. Plans are underway for a special showing and sale of Jamaican art in preview events and at the Flower Mart. Both days of Flower Mart will be highlighted by the performances of the Kingston College Chapel Choir and the exciting Akwaaba Drummers as well as exhibits of the beautiful tropical flowers and plants of Jamaica. More information will be provided as we proceed to the Flower Mart, so please continue to check the Flower Mart website under the Flower Mart entertainment page. As in past years, all proceeds benefit the gardens and grounds (all 59 acres) of Washington National Cathedral. Despite the devastating earthquake and subsequent crane damage to the Cathedral gardens and grounds that occurred in 2011, All Hallows Guild promises to make this a memorable Flower Mart for everyone and hopes that will join us on Friday, May 4th and Saturday, May 5th - Rain or Shine! Don't miss this one.
