Mission Statement
Since its founding in 1916, All Hallows Guild's mission has remained unchanged: to provide for the "care, preservation and beautification of the Cathedral Close", keeping in mind the vision and plans of Bishop Satterlee, the first Bishop of Washington, Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., the first Cathedral landscape architect, and Florence Brown Bratenahl, Cathedral landscape designer, 1928-1936.
What underlying philosophical belief guides AHG members?
The belief is that one of the important reasons people are drawn to the Cathedral Close is that it is an oasis of peacefulness and beauty in the midst of a busy city. The Close is a place where people can reflect, pray or meditate in peace. Therefore, the whole Close serves as a place of worship. "...A haven of peace and refreshment, a revelation of beauty and a gateway of paradise…"
—All Hallows Guild Prayer
